15 points -- Clearly Stated Thesis:. Narrative Hook Sets Expectation About Story
15 points -- Details develop the storyline and peak action
Paragraphs = 30 pts. total
10 points -- Each paragraph develops one point
10 points -- Each paragraph is unified and coherent
5 points -- Intro paragraph creates the setting
5 points -- Smooth, quick conclusion after peak action
Mechanical and Sentence Errors = 20 pts. total
More than 7 mechanical errors--no points and paper could be returned w/o a grade.

A = 90 - 100... B= 80 - 89... C= 70 - 79... D = 60 - 69.... F = 0 - 59
Compare-Contrast Essay Scoring Rubric:
Essay
20 points -- The essay demonstrates the assigned essay form (Compare-Contrast)
15 points -- Clearly Stated thesis: The thesis clearly defines whether the essay is about similarities, differences, or both
15 points -- Details develop significant points about similarities or differences (not the obvious ones)

10 points --Each paragraph develops one point
10 points --Each paragraph is unified and coherent
5 points--Intro paragraph creates interest
5 points--Conclusion provides a natural end to discussion
Mechanical and Sentence Errors
20 points --2-3 errors
15 points-- 4 errors
10 points-- 5 errors
More than 5 mechanical errors-no points and paper could be returned w/o a grade.

5 points -- The essay includes an evaluation of the original article's objectivity
5 points -- Balance between the summary and response: 1/3: 2/3
