POLICE OFFICER FITS COLLEGE INTO BUSY SCHEDULE
Alvin Luker said he has wanted to be a police officer since he was a kid. He took the direct route to reach that goal by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and working as a corrections officer in Kentucky for two years when his tour ended.
Alvin and his wife, Andrea – his high school sweetheart – missed Colorado, especially Routt County, where they met. The Lukers moved to Cañon City where Alvin went to work for the Colorado Department of Corrections. Within two years, Alvin earned the rank of sergeant and the Lukers moved to Sterling where he enrolled in the Northeastern Junior College Police Academy. After earning his POST Certification in 2001, Alvin took a job with the Craig Police Department and the Lukers moved back home to northwestern Colorado.
In 2006, Alvin and his partner, K-9 Fury, earned the Craig Police Officer of the Year Award.
Andrea Luker introduced her husband to CCCOnline while she was taking Early Childhood Education classes. Because Alvin works nights and weekends, CCCOnline courses are a great option. Alvin can take classes toward his Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice and still have family time with Andrea and their 17-year-old daughter.
Alvin recommends CCCOnline classes to others in the law enforcement field because they fit in with busy schedules. He offered important advice to anyone who is considering going to college online: commit the time to your classes and keep up with the work.
