Over the next 10 years, the number of jobs in Early Childhood Education should grow by about 38 percent, keeping up with the predicted increase in the number of children under the age of 5. Parents will need child care during non-traditional weekend and evening hours and an increase in centers that provide Early Childhood Education is expected.
Because so many early-childhood care workers are parents themselves, part-time jobs are common. The average starting pay for early-childhood workers is about $20,000 per year.

About 37 percent of people who work in child care are self-employed – taking care of children in their homes or working as nannies in private households.
A variety of opportunities for careers that are both satisfying and rewarding are available, as these examples show:
• Working directly with children in career teaching areas.
• Providing support to parents and other caregivers in various capacities.
• Supervising other staff.
• Starting your own family child-care business in your home (requires the licensing listed next).
Teaching in Early Childhood Education is a rewarding career for people who enjoy working with young children and want to ensure their best possible development through quality early-childhood care and education. Regardless of whether the child’s learning environment is the home, among family or friends, or a child-development learning center, children must always be surrounded by people who care deeply for them and are able to meet their needs.
Child-care professionals should take joy in working with young children and creating a quality care and education environment. To do this, those who work with young children need the knowledge and willingness to meet the various needs of our youngest citizens.
