In Colorado, jobs in education are expected to increase steadily in the next 10 years as older teachers retire and more children are born!
In Colorado, elementary-school teachers typically start at a salary of about $33,000 per year. The average pay for a teacher who has been working for several years is about $49,000 per year.
Paraeducators often work part time and can earn up to $20,000 per year. Those who have training or experience with special-education students or who can speak a foreign language are in high demand.

Kids will be kids. As an elementary school teacher, you can help kids be better, smarter kids!
Over the next 10 years, Colorado will need more and more teachers to work with the growing population of children. Teaching at any level requires education and training beyond high school.
At the elementary-school level, classroom teachers need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a teacher’s certificate to work in Colorado. Paraeducators – or teacher assistants – typically need at least an associate’s degree.
Through CCCOnline, you can take a General-Education core and Elementary Education classes - including EDU 221 - that will transfer to a teacher-education program at a four-year school. Most of the credits you earn at any Colorado Community College or through CCCOnline are guaranteed to transfer (see gtPathways) to any of Colorado's public four-year colleges or universities, where you can earn a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate.
