Languages and Literature

Language and literature are the means by which different cultures reveal themselves - their heroes, their history and their contributions - to the rest of the world. Courses in this program area offer students new cultural experiences and ideas. Most are part of the gtPathways Guaranteed Transfer curriculum and are required in most associate degree programs.

Languages

Können Sie Deutsches sprechen?

¿Cómo sobre español? ¿Puede usted hablar español?

Pouvez-vous dire quelque chose en français, ne comptant pas les "pommes frites" ou "le pain grillé français"?

CCCOnline offers classes at the first four levels of study (the first two years) in three foreign languages: German, French and Spanish. At Level I, you'll begin to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the language you choose. At Level II, you will build on what you already learned, developing more skills in the language. At Levels III and IV, you will use what you have learned to become more proficient at reading and writing in that language and understanding the culture. You also will feel more comfortable speaking and listening to others in that language.

If you’re planning to transfer to a four-year college or university, credits you earn by passing FRE 211, FRE 212, SPA 211 and SPA 212 will transfer and count toward your bachelor’s degree. These courses also fulfill the language credits you need for your associate's degree through CCCOnline.

Literature

Written text — poems, stories, books and plays — gives readers a feel for the customs and ideas that their authors experienced. In CCCOnline Literature classes, you will read the works of some of these authors. Through reading their words you will learn about history, culture, human relationships and social customs. In class discussions, you will learn how to analyze what you’ve read and connect it to your own experiences. Discussing the reading with your instructor and fellow students will give you a chance to critique and be critiqued.

Through CCCOnline, you will be able to fulfill your General Education Core requirements for an associate’s degree. Most of the Literature classes are guaranteed to transfer to any public four-year college or university in the state.

Communication and Women's Studies

Women's Studies and Communication classes also are included in CCCOnline's Languages & Literature program.

Currently, students can take WST 240 Goddesses and Women in the Ancient World through CCCOnline to fulfill requirements for an Associate of General Studies degree.

CCCOnline also offers COM 125 Interpersonal Communication, a class you will need to fulfill the requirements for your Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of General Studies degrees.
