| Will I have to go to campus? |
 |
| You should not have to go to campus when taking CCCOnline courses. However, if you are taking a course that requires a monitored lab, you may have to go to campus. As a CCCOnline student, you can use any of the services available on-campus so, you may want to go to campus to take advantage of the student services available there. |
| |
| How much time involved in a 15 week semester, 10 week? |
 |
| The amount of time students spend on an online coures is about the same as the amount of time that students need for a campus-based course. A three-credit 15-week course will require at least 12 hours per week, or 180 hours per semester. Whereas for a three-credit 10-week course the requirements per week increase to at least 18 hours per week, or 180 hours per semester. |

 |
| You will get to meet other online students though your course's web based forum. In the future, we will also have available an online student lounge that any CCCOnline student can visit. | |
| Are courses ever cancelled? |
 |
| Courses with fewer than 10 students enrolled may be cancelled. However, because CCCOnline is experiencing a lot of growth, few courses need to be cancelled. Also, if a course has more than 25 enrolled students (15 for ENG121 and ENG122), a new section is opened. This ensures that students can get into classes without worrying about them "filling up." |
| |
| Can I take courses on-campus and online at the same time? |
 |
| Yes, you can take on-campus and online courses at the same time. However, please remember that online courses are as rigorous as on-campus courses, and you should expect the same or higher level of work. Do not take more courses than your schedule can handle. |
| |
| Can I take more than one course during the semester? |
 |
| You can take up to the maximum number of courses allowed by your home college. However, these courses are as rigorous as on-campus courses, and you should expect the same or higher level of work. |
| |
| How do labs work? |
 |
The science courses offered by CCCOnline do not require attendance at a local campus for laboratory work. Some courses, including biology, chemistry, and geology, make use of laboratory kits which students are required to purchase along with texts. Some courses may also require special supplements such as Thinkwell disks or CDs. Lab assignments, when required, are performed in the home or outdoors. Reports on results are emailed to the instructor or posted on discussion threads for class comment.
Increasing use is being made of what are sometimes called "virtual labs." In a virtual lab the student interacts with a sophisticated program in which she or he instructs the program to perform certain sequences of events, which the student can watch occurring on the screen as though taking place in a laboratory. Experiments done, for example, in a physics virtual lab can have far more impact on the student than working in a "real" lab. The consequences of error can be very strikingly portrayed on the screen but without the risk of injury, making such labs potent learning tools. Performance of students in such virtual labs also can be graded quite effectively.
In summary, you take CCCOnline science courses online and in your own home. Geology courses may require that you make certain field trips, but you can do these at your convenience. Astronomy instructors may request that you visit an observatory or a planetarium, but, again, at your convenience within the duration of the course. |

 |
| CCCOnline offers courses in 15-week and 10-week formats. Session 1 courses last 15 weeks and Session 2 courses last 10 weeks. (Summer term is 10 weeks long.) CCCOnline courses are not self-paced; the course structure requires that you adhere to assignment, test, and other due dates in order to successfully complete the course. A grade of "Incomplete" is considered only under extenuating circumstances. (See the Incomplete Policy on your syllabus.) Permission of the instructor is required if you wish to finish the course earlier than the scheduled time. |
| |
| How do I contact my instructor? |
 |
Your instructor’s email address and contact information is located in the course syllabus. Instructors are assigned courses at the start of the semester; therefore, if you need to get in touch with an instructor prior to the start of the semester, please contact the Program Chairperson for assistance.
If you have tried contacting your instructor and have not received a reply after 24-48 hours, please contact the Program Chairperson. |
| |
| Will more courses be available in the future? |

| How do courses work? |
 |
| Once the session begins, you will have access to your Student Home Page. On this page you will find a listing of your courses along with other useful links. Click on the course name to enter that course. Once inside, you will see the syllabus, course lessons, and other information your instructor has listed. You will be able to communicate with other students and with your instructor through email within your course. You will also be required to post questions and comments to the course discussion forum. This forum allows you to hold virtual conversations with other classmates and your instructor without everyone having to be online at the same time.
